New Toy!

We picked up the boat today. First thoughts are great, although she handles very differently from the other boat, very very differently. Only went on a short cruise down to the next lock and back. Getting used to it already. Am staying in Penton Hook Marina for a couple of nights before heading to Oxford over the weekend.

“Never get out of the boat”

We couldn’t go out on the boat this weekend. Although the weather to day was great, the Thames was in flood with red warnings all along the river.

So we had an afternoon out in Bristol.

Bristol is one of the places we are considering mooring the boat, so we went on a couple of the boat trips to get a good look along the River Avon and the docks.

We are also seriously considering getting a larger boat. Maybe big enough to live on. Which would be very nice. Still need to looking into mooring and what river we will put the boat on but we could be taking a step towards moving aboard soon. Interesting Times ahead πŸ™‚

“It’s over there, between the land and the sky…”

Thinking of moving the boat closer to the sea. Not many locks there and we should be able to use it more often. Obviously still dependant on the weather but Poole harbour was very nice and should be calm much of the time and big enough to cruise around for a few hours without having to go out to sea.
Going to need a bigger engine though. Mainly because we will just have to go out to sea if we can πŸ˜‰

Bournemouth (cloudy, with a chance of chicken)

This week I was supposed to be on holiday. We had planned to head down the Thames towards London. But everything conspired against us including, as usual, the weather.
So I spent the first part of the week at work (writing naming convension code. Increadably dull and uninteresting) and decide to take Thursday and Friday off in the hope that we could still get a long weekend on the boat. Not much chance of that so we want to Bournemouth instead. I am not going to say much about Bournemouth other than it was a bit disappointing. Hotel was rubbish. Weather was rubbish. Harry Ramsden’s fish and chips was awful. Choice of pubs was not too good. And we were so unimpressed with the hotel restaurant that we had Kentucky Fried Chicken for dinner.

However the beach was very nice, even in the rain, and we had a brief visit to Poole this morning which was very nice.

Next time we are going to stay in Poole for a couple of days.

Oh and by the way, we quite like the new iOS 6 panoramic photo mode on the iPhone πŸ™‚

Hang on a minute, what happened to Summer?

Well, looks like Summer is over. How long did it last this year? Was it two or three weeks?

Disappointing. Not only is the weather disappointing, but I was supposed to be on Holiday this week but had to cancel it due to things beyond my control and the fact that no one listens to me :-). But I guess that was a blessing in disguise as I think I would have got a bit wet in the past couple of days – the boat is a bit too small to have the cover up and be able to get in and out easily at locks so is not best suited to the Thames in the rain.

If the water gets any deeper, I can moor the boat in my driveway

So today was spent at work. Which wasn’t much fun. Roll on the weekend. Lets hope it stops raining.

(The sun has just come out as I write. Maybe thats a good omen!)
